MERLO - 60 Years of History, the Exhibition Pathway

2. The Origins

The origins

Merlo S.p.A. officially began its history in 1964, when it was founded. However, its roots date back even further. In this room, let us take you through the family history and artisan origins of the Merlo industry.

Through historical images and original objects, you can learn how it all began in a small blacksmith's workshop in Cuneo's historic centre. In the Merlo family, ironworking is a craft handed down from generation to generation. Each left a mark, enriching the legacy with their own genius and vision.

In particular, it was thanks to grandfather Pinin's passion - and later, his children Natalina and Amilcare - that the company embarked on the path of evolution that laid the foundations of the industry as we know it today.

in an era from which few records remain, yet it speaks of a craft passed down from generation to generation. The first written document dates back to 1911, when a small blacksmith workshop in the historic center of Cuneo bore the name of Giuseppe Merlo. With a forge, an anvil, and a few essential tools, Giuseppe shaped iron, creating gates, chandeliers, and other items needed by his community.
