MERLO - 60 Years of History, the Exhibition Pathway
3. A History of Innovation
A History of Innovation
In 1964, with the foundation of the company and the construction of the new factory in San Defendente di Cervasca, Merlo was ready to face ambitious challenges.
As a result of significant investments, the company introduced its first assembly line, which made production more efficient and modern. The first original Merlo vehicles took shape: from dumpers and concrete mixers to forklifts and telescopic boom cranes.
The turning point occurred in the 1980s. In fact, Merlo launched its first telehandler, an innovation that brought the company to international recognition.
Year after year, the company continued to grow, expanding its product range and maintaining a focus on design and technology excellence.
In this room, you will be enthralled by the historical Merlo vehicles, as well as the evolution of the company up until the 2000s.
The Dumper, named DM, was Merlo's first original machine, produced at the request of a local company. Equipped with an engine from Florence-based Palmieri, an articulated chassis, and four-wheel drive, its mechanics came from a Jeep Willys, the off-road vehicle used by Allied troops during the war and still widely available at the time.
