From Paris to Nice ... passing through Merlo

16 July 2017

On 22 June 250 French cyclists were hosted by the Merlo Training and Research Centre

Passion has always been one of the engines enabling us to reach extraordinary targets in all fields. It is one of the assets that have enabled the Merlo Group to become a technological leader and an international point of reference in its industry. This same passion drives many sportspeople who, from spring to late autumn, get on a bike whenever they can to eat up the miles in total freedom. Every mile, every climb is a conquest and a starting point as they continually put themselves to the test. This is why, when the AAOC (Airport Association Olympique Cycliste) association contacted the Merlo Group requesting hospitality for the 22 June stage of the Paris- Nice, it immediately agreed. This historic race, in its 18th edition, brought together amateur racers from all over France. The 2017 edition saw 250 cyclists take part in 10 stages, covering 1500 km and with a total climb of 27,500 metres.
The Merlo Group was chosen as a staging post for the 250 cyclists, where they could regroup before processing together to Piazza Galimberti. For the occasion the CFRM was equipped with gazebo, water fountains, refreshment point and a relaxation area where the first racers could cool off and rest while waiting for their fellow cyclists to arrive. To shade the participants, telehandlers were used in an unusual as wellas welcome new application: as a tarpaulin support. The six handlers supported and stretched out two canopies, thus creating a large shaded area with benches for the waiting cyclists. Given the high temperatures, the racers really appreciated this welcome, which made the two-hour wait for the arrival of the last cyclists a pleasant and relaxing experience. At the end of the event, the organiser, André Leroux, awarded Cav.Merlo a plate celebrating the event in gratitude for the welcome and support received. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of the CFRM and the volunteers of the Merlo Group Association who made the event's success possible with their work under the blazing sun of those days.
