The Merlo patented boom sideshift.

The answer provided by the Merlo engineers to the need to ensure the greatest degree of load pick up/deposit precision was the development of an integrated telescopic boom side-shift system , which ensures the recovery a high error margin should the operator be unable to place the load in the required position for any reason.
On those models with standard sideshift features, the upper part of the frame and the telescopic boom may be shifted sideways in relation to the longitudinal machine axis, to ensure that the required position is obtained with the greatest precision, without having to actually shift the handler.
